
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th, 2000) is an American actress and singer. Her career spanned more 40 years. London was a torch-singer well-known for her soft, smooth voice. She recorded more than 30 albums of standards and jazz from 1955 until 1969. Her debut album "Cry Me a River", which she recorded, was inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her performance in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse in the show Emergency! Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she started her acting career. London's 35-year acting career began with film in 1944. It included parts in the lead female role in several westerns. In the mid-50s, she signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional career. In 1969 she released her final studio album. But, she continued to be prominent in the emergency series as Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) In the show, she appeared alongside her husband Bobby Troup. The show was directed by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
